Laser Vision Correction Using an All-In-One Femtosecond Laser Procedure with the Visumax Laser
March 12th, 2010
This video has been provided by Dr. Rupal Shah, New Vision Laser Centers, Vadodara. It highlights a cross between two procedures-FLEx (Femtosecond Lenticule Extraction) and SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction). The Carl Zeiss Meditec Visumax Femtosecond Laser is used to create both a refractive lenticule, as well as a LASIK flap. Unlike conventional Femtosecond LASIK, where a femtosecond laser is used to create a flap, and the excimer laser is used to perform the refractive correction, this is an ALL-IN-ONE (AIO) procedure, where only a femtosecond laser is used to perform the entire LASIK procedure. ALL-IN-ONE can be done using a technique known as FLEx, which is basically similar to LASIK, but can also be done by a technique known as SMILE (which reduces the incision size to perform LASIK. This video shows a procedure known as Psuedosmile, where the full incision is made with the Femtosecond Laser, but the lenticule is removed only from a small area.
