Depends where you live. A doc that did my eyes and I used to assist in surgery is the best ( in my opinion of course)

Look up Newman Lasik Centers, I can’t remember the website but it will be easy to find he has a few centers on the West Coast.

I had it done a few years ago, and my side effects were all temporary. Increased dryness in the eyes; this happens to everyone for a few weeks, but it lasted a few months for me since I had dry eyes going into the surgery.

I saw halos around streetlights at night for the first few weeks, then that went away as well.

I would recommend going in for a consultation to talk to a doctor about the side effects and risks. Most consults are free, even if you decide against the surgery. They can tell you what to expect, specific to your eyesight.

I’d recommend it to everyone. It doesn’t hurt, tis just a little awkward during the surgery. But hey, a little awkwardness for 5 minutes has been worth years of contact-free and glasses-free eyes.

In the US, the FDA restricts laser vision correction to only those at least 18 years of age. Of course, there are other concerns that go into deciding if you are a good candidate for the procedure BUT it cannot be done until you are at least 18.

I am doing it on Thursday (two days from now). I know so many people who have done it and swear by it.

Best thing to do is go and talk with the staff. They will tell you that if your prescription is less than -4.0, your eye correction will be very predictable.

There are basically two types of surgery. Traditional Lasik & Wavefront Lasik (or custom lasik). Only after a full eye exam will you know which would be recommended. For me, they said there would be not much difference between Traditional & Wavefront since my eyes are so healthy & I have no problems with my night vision.

Call many places up, or ask who has done it. The place I am going to offers traditional Lasik for $800 per eye. Normally I would be skeptical for that low of a price but I know 4 people who have successfully had theirs done with this same doctor and swear by him. All the other places I have called are charging $1700 – $2000 per eye for the same exact procedure.

So most importantly, research your doctor!!!

Specifically, this procedure would be considered SBK (sub-Bowman’s keratomileusis), meaning the corneal flaps are ultra-thin – 100 microns or less.

My glasses and contacts before surgery had corrections of -7 to -8 diopters, so I was very nearsighted.

Video begins after the IntraLase laser has created the corneal flaps on both eyes. You will see Dr. Kraff first lifting the laser-cut corneal flaps, and then the vision correction treatment with the VISX Star S4 laser.

My post-operative vision has been excellent – 20/15 or better in both eyes with no complications whatsoever.
