PTERYGIUM San Clemente Laguna Hills California : A pterygium is a growth of scar tissue and blood vessels on the sun-exposed surface of the eye in response to ultraviolet damage from the environment. A pterygium often grows in a wing shape, which extends across the cornea towards the pupil. Pterygium most often occurs on the inner side of the pupil. The best treatment for pterygium is prevention. Wearing wrap around sunglasses when exposed to sun and wind will prevent a pterygium. Decongestants simply disguise the redness while the pterygium grows. A single dilated vessel can be treated with a laser but permanent removal of a pterygium requires surgery. Pterygiums are nourished by tiny capillaries that supply blood to the tissue. The growth of pyerygium remains dormant. As the pterygium develops, it may alter the shape of the cornea, causing astigmatism. If the pterygium invades the central cornea, it is removed surgically. Since pterygiums are most commonly caused by sun exposure, protecting the eyes from sun, dust and wind is recommended. Instilling artificial tears liberally is also helpful to decrease irritation of pterygium. In some cases, steroid drops are prescribed to reduce inflammation of pterygium. Thanks, I’ll check that out. Perhaps what I have isn’t a pterygium, I don’t know because I can’t afford to go to Dr. but whatever it is, it’s no longer red in my eye and doesn’t hurt as much but I can’t see that well in that eye any longer, and I can’t get glasses. It’s only(thankfully)in one eye though, so I get along. Thanks for the advice.

ive been told by optometrists that visine, clear eyes, etc. just makes it worse. try using blink and other types of what are called lubricant eye drops.

I sadly developed a pterygium after working a summer at a garden center, I was in sun and wind all day. It’s been almost a year since it developed. I have vision problems now in that eye but the redness has lessened a lot just from wearing sunglasses all the time when I’m out side and from using Visine a few times daily. I have no health insurance and can’t afford the surgery, but I have had much improvement with just the steps I listed.

Yeah sure, not only …
Yeah sure, not only do i have a black spot in my left eye i got 3 floaters, 1 in my left eye and two in the right and with some few transparent little spots, what your husband haves (*giggles* becausae im talking to a female adult) is the same as mines, the only safe treatment is a yag laser that is treate by specialized Opthomologists, unfortunately there are very few who can perform such surgery, so you might have to travel in a different state in the U.S just to find the right person.:)

Could you please describe your problem a bit more? My husband talks about this dot too, but the GP just can’t understand him. He has a pterygium which the doctor says is harmless. Apart from that, is there any specialist doctor you visted ? Were they able to diagnose what it is? Thanks.
