My eyesight is getting really bad, how can I get my mother to take me to the eye doctors?
April 13th, 2010 | by admin |I’ve been asking her to take me to the eye doctors for months now, but every time shes says that she will, she laster makes up some excuse why she can’t. I understand that money is tight right now, but its getting to the point where It’s effecting my school work [I'm in summer school right now] like there have been times where i have given up on assignments due to the fact that i can read the board to see what I’m supposed to do. I feel so helpless when I can read something. I just want to cry, what can I do?
Tell the teacher, and when the teacher tells you to tell your mom or dad, let her know you already have told your mom and don’t be ashamed to tell your teacher that you guys don’t have money for glasses. Your teacher probably knows a way to help you get glasses for low cost, and can help your mom by telling her too. I’m not trying to get you to "tattle" on your mom, but apparently she’s not taking your needs into consideration. If you cant do your school work, then she needs to figure out some way to help you. The teacher can have a conference with your mom, and let her know what she needs to do for you.
Most importantly, you need to let your teacher know so that he or she doesn’t think that you are becoming a bad student because you are not trying, let the teacher know that you have a problem. They are there to help.

You have to keep bugging your mom. Tell her it’s affecting your school work, tell her you can’t read the board. Cry if you must but make her understand how important your eyes are.
If you do not have insurance there is probably some type of low cost eye doctor’s in your area. Look through the yellow pages and call and ask how much an eye test is without insurance. Good luck.

ask your mom to put you on the Blue Cross plan for people who can’t afford insurance for their children. there is no cost, and the copays are very small.

talk to your teacher. Tell them that you are having trouble seeing and they will make sure you get your assignments. Also, ask if the school can refer you for an eye screening through the school nurse.
The school may contact your mom and explain to her that you need a vision screening, and they may know of somewhere it can be done for little or no cost.

I had the same problem so I went to the school and told them that I could not see far away and they called my dad. I also told my dad that I would not be able to see to get my driver’s license and would never move out because I wouldn’t be able to find my house due to not be able to see. He got busy and took me to the eye doc. Good luck.

i know how it is to not have enough money to stay regular w/check ups. but maybe you can tell someone else in your family. i was held back early in school because of so called reading problems when it was really i needed classes. if u were in school (during reg school yr) u might be able to get one there. try the health dept, medicaid, or see if u can find an md that will take payments.good luck!

I’m sorry that your Mom isn’t taking this a little more seriously. She should want to take you and get your eyes checked before they become any worse. Sit down with your Mom and tell her it is effecting your school work, that you need to go. Speak to another adult about it and maybe they can convince your Mom into taking you. Nothing should be more important than her child. I can understand not having the money, but I’m sure there is someone that can offer you some help. Good Luck and please get your eyes checked soon before they get any worse.

Maybe you could talk to the nurse or counselor at school. If they give you a simple eye test at school & you fail it they will send a letter home to your mom requesting that she take you to the eye dr and ask her to let them know when you have gone. Good luck!

You have to keep bugging her. It’s not normal for your eyesight to get that bad that it can affect your school work ability. You could have a serious eye disease that needs to be treated immediately. I’m sorry this is happening to you. It must be really scary and frustrating. I have albinism which also affects my vision so I was born legally blind. My vision is like what a normal person could see at 200 ft I’d have to be 20 ft from that same object to see it. It always frustrated me in school and made me upset even tho i’ve always been that way. Now that i’ve gotten over my insecurities I use a monocular to read the chalkboard in college. It’s like a pair of binoculars only its much smaller and you only look thru it with one eye. But you need to see an eye dr. I doubt your vision is that bad, and maybe there’s nothing wrong and you just need glasses. Good luck. I hope you can get ur mom to listen.
